How to check an MPMC registration

The Madhya Pradesh Medical Council, in Bhopal, is the state council cited by more profiles on this site than any other — a consequence of the source data, which is weighted towards Indore, Jabalpur, Bhopal and Gwalior. It is also the register against which the largest number of profiles here have already been checked, because MPMC numbers are on file for roughly half the Madhya Pradesh records and the verification worker started there.

Unusually among state councils, the MPMC publishes a public search of its own register, on the MPOnline portal, in addition to feeding the NMC's national register. Older records — registrations on or before 27 December 2016, which is registration number 19693 and below — live in a separate list reached from the same page, so a search that returns nothing for an older doctor should be repeated there before it is treated as a miss.

How to check an MPMC registration number

1. Open the NMC's Indian Medical Register searchThe Indian Medical Register is the National Medical Commission's public search across every state medical council. It offers five ways in: doctor name, year of registration, registration number, state medical council, and an "advance" search that combines them. Choose State Medical Council and pick "Madhya Pradesh Medical Council" from the list, or use the registration number on its own.
2. Match the record, not just the numberAn MPMC number is unique inside the MPMC register, but the same digits exist in other state registers. Confirm that the name on the record is the doctor you are checking and that the year of registration is plausible for their age and qualification. If the number returns a different name, treat the number you were given as wrong until the practice explains it.
3. Check the list of doctors removed from the registerThe NMC also publishes a Black List of doctors whose names have been removed or suspended. A number that searches cleanly on the register can still appear there, so check both.
4. Cross-check on the MPMC's own registerThe MPMC runs a public e-directory on the MPOnline portal where a registered doctor can be searched by name, registration number, qualification and district; doctors registered on or before 27 December 2016 (registration numbers up to 19693) are held in a separate older list reached from the same page. Use it as a second source: the council's own copy of its register is updated by the council itself, while the NMC copy is compiled from what councils send in and carries the note "This data is being updated".

Councils change their numbering over time — a five-digit number and a year-stamped alphanumeric one can both be genuine — so the point of the table is to show you what "normal" looks like for this council, and to make an odd-looking number stand out.

Practising outside Madhya Pradesh

A doctor registered with the MPMC is on the Indian Medical Register, and a doctor on that register may practise anywhere in India. Many doctors who move states also take an additional registration with the new state's council, so it is normal to find a doctor practising in Madhya Pradesh whose primary number was issued elsewhere, or a MPMC-registered doctor practising in another state. What matters for you is that at least one current registration exists and that the doctor's name is not on the removed list.

Names written surname first

Many Madhya Pradesh records on this site were imported from a council-derived source that writes names surname first — "Gour Pushpa" rather than "Pushpa Gour". The register itself may hold either order. When a search on the number returns the same two names inverted, that is a match, not a mismatch.
