The MS in General Surgery is the three-year postgraduate degree of the surgeon: training in the operations of the abdomen, the breast, the thyroid, hernias, trauma and the common emergencies, and the base from which the surgical super-specialities — urology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, surgical gastroenterology and oncology — are entered through the MCh. Its holder is a general surgeon. It is the most common MS branch on this site, and the surgeons who record it also record laparoscopic fellowships such as the FMAS and FIAGES more than any other group.

How to check whether a doctor holds an MS (General Surgery)
- Read the register entryA doctor's record on the Indian Medical Register names the qualification the state medical council recorded at registration, and further qualifications where the doctor has had them added.
