The DHMS is an older diploma in homoeopathy that predates the BHMS degree; its holders are registered homoeopaths, mostly senior ones.
The DHMS is a diploma in homoeopathy awarded by state boards before the degree course, the BHMS, became the standard primary qualification. Holders were registered on state homoeopathy registers and remain so; as far as this site can establish the course is no longer offered for new admission, and the DHMS holders here are correspondingly senior. It is a homoeopathy qualification and licenses homoeopathy only.
On this site the DHMS is recorded on a substantial number of homoeopathy profiles, chiefly in Madhya Pradesh. A DHMS holder is not on the medical register and is listed under AYUSH with the system stated.
Because the DHMS is a diploma rather than a degree, a homoeopath who holds one and no BHMS has a shorter formal training than a BHMS holder; both are registrable and both practise homoeopathy. The qualification is recognised under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine or the National Commission for Homoeopathy, and the state board that registered the practitioner recorded it. Ask which board issued the registration and check with it; the awarding university can verify the certificate. - Yes, when awarded by an institution recognised for it. The NCISM or National Commission for Homoeopathy maintains the list of recognised qualifications and of the institutions permitted to award each; a DHMS from a college that was not recognised for the course in that year is not a recognised qualification, and a registering body can refuse to enter it on the register.
